When the “Havayot Center” began operating, in addition to the work with the horses, therapeutic riding was incorporated including riding lessons for many patients and other others.
In a long-term process, the Center sought to build therapeutic treatments utilizing horses without causing them any harm, meaning that various tools were no longer used and training methods were changed. Since 2017, the horse-assisted therapy, here at the "Havayot Center,” is unique in the country and is based on therapeutic work that focuses on the connection with the horse, and not necessarily on riding it. The treatment is based on the unique connection created between the patient and the horse, mediated by the therapist, as the patient is a model for relationships in general and for healthy communication.
Treatment with horses
David Erez interviews Dr. Yoni Yehuda - horse-assisted therapy and their environment:
During the treatment we build a relationship in which the horses can also talk, express themselves freely and be full partners in the treatment process, by building a behavior based on positive reinforcements. Working with positive reinforcements produces high motivation in the horse to interact and cooperate with us, enables play and enjoyment, while
empowering the patient as one who cares for and teaches the horse.
The therapeutic work with the horse allows the patient to project from his inner world, and the therapist - to observe the patient's attachment patterns, his interpretation of reality (with an emphasis on relationships), and from this it is possible to work on the difficulties that arise.
The treatment addresses various levels of the patient's needs, such as developing awareness and emotional expression, developing healthy attachment relationships with the therapist and the horse, supporting the patient's natural developmental process, self-image and confidence, communication skills and more.
